The fatal incident occurred at about 10pm on July 6 along the Cheras–Kajang Expressway near the 13km mark.

According to police, the victim had pulled over on the left side of the highway after experiencing a tyre blowout while travelling with five passengers in his silver Toyota Innova.

He had successfully changed the damaged tyre and was preparing to remove a makeshift warning marker placed behind the vehicle when tragedy struck.

Victim Hit While Retrieving Warning Marker

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the victim had placed a bucket behind his vehicle to alert approaching motorists while carrying out the tyre replacement.

After completing the repair, the man reportedly walked to the rear of the vehicle to retrieve the bucket.

At that moment, a red Toyota Innova allegedly crashed into him before fleeing the scene without stopping to render assistance.

The impact left the victim with severe injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The five passengers travelling with him were not reported to have suffered injuries.

Police Launch Investigation

Authorities have launched an investigation into the fatal collision under Section 41(1) of Malaysia’s Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving.

Separate BMW Case Now Investigated As Murder

In a separate high-profile road incident in Kuala Lumpur, police have reclassified a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist and a BMW driver as a murder investigation.

The case involves a 29-year-old motorcyclist who died after allegedly being struck from behind by a BMW along Jalan Tun Razak in the early hours of July 6.

Authorities initially investigated the incident as causing death by dangerous driving. However, following instructions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor, the case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The 30-year-old BMW driver surrendered to police approximately 12 hours after the crash and has been remanded for seven days to assist investigations.

Preliminary alcohol and drug screening tests conducted on the suspect reportedly returned negative results.

Both cases have sparked renewed discussions about road safety, roadside emergencies and the responsibilities of motorists involved in traffic accidents.
