A 53-year-old Malaysian technician who has been working in Singapore is now a multimillionaire after winning a staggering RM73.1 million (S$22.2 million) in the Supreme Toto 6/58 jackpot. The payout formed the bulk of the RM78.5 million (S$23.8 million) prize pool, making it one of the largest lottery windfalls in recent memory.
According to Malaysian media, the man travelled with his wife and children to Kuala Lumpur on 20 August to collect his winnings. What made the story even more remarkable was his choice of numbers – all based on his family members’ birthdates: 3, 6, 9, 12, 27, and 34. These numbers turned out to be the winning combination that changed his family’s financial future overnight.
The lucky winner, who usually plays Toto 4D and 6D, shared that he was initially inspired to try the 6/58 game after overhearing another customer buying a Lucky Pick ticket. Instead of relying on chance, he decided to bet on meaningful dates. When the numbers matched, he said he was left “completely stunned” and admitted that he could not sleep that night as the reality of the win sank in.
Plans for the Winnings
The man revealed that his first priority will be to pay off his housing loan and settle all existing debts. The rest of the money, he said, would be carefully saved and invested for his children’s future. Calling the win “an answered prayer”, the technician emphasised his gratitude and relief at finally being able to secure his family’s financial stability.
Coincidentally, two other winners from Selangor also struck gold in the same draw, each pocketing millions with family-related number selections. One took home RM2.09 million (S$637,000), while another won RM3.32 million (S$1 million) using EZ-Bet tickets.
Another Johor Winner Follows
Just days later, on 24 August, another Johor resident – an 88-year-old retired teacher – scooped up RM10.7 million (S$3.2 million) from the Toto 4D Jackpot 1. The elderly man said he had been betting on numbers derived from his age, his wife’s age, and their house number for years. Previously, he had won smaller sums amounting to hundreds of thousands of ringgit but never expected a jackpot this size.
He announced that part of his winnings would be shared with family and donated to charity, reflecting a sense of responsibility despite the sudden windfall.
These back-to-back stories of Malaysian winners highlight not just the enduring appeal of lottery games, but also the role of personal and family significance in choosing numbers. For many, such wins represent more than just luck – they are seen as blessings that can transform generations.
