MALE VOLUNTEER FILMED MAN INSIDE CHURCH TOILET CUBICLE, JAILED 16 WEEKS

30-year-old Benjamin Chua pleaded guilty to 2 counts of voyeurism and was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment on 4 November, according to The Straits Times.

Chua, who was a volunteer usher at a church service, has following a 26-year-old man into the toilet and used his mobile phone to film him.

His bail has been set at $5,000 and he is expected to begin his sentence on 1 December.

What happened?

On 5 December 2021, Chua followed the victim into the toilet at the church and used his phone to film the man inside.

The victim heard someone enter the cubicle next to him, and he then saw a black phone pointed at him from above, before confronting Chua.

Chua admitted to having voyeuristic tendencies, and the victim then asked for his phone and password, which Chua complied with before returning to his duties as a volunteer usher.

The victim access the phone and found a hidden folder, with multiple videos of men inside toilets, and he then confronted Chua who confessed to taking them.

The man then deleted the videos and told Chua to give himself up to the police, and Chua then did so 5 days later, surrendering himself to the police at Toa Payoh Neighbourhood Police Centre, telling them what he had done.

In a separate incident, Chua was at VivoCity on 29 November 2021, entering a cinema toilet and using his phone to film a 22-year-old man inside a cubicle.
