Man, 38, Arrested for Stealing Phones and Wallet from Tanglin Road Hotel Rooms

A 38-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into two separate hotel rooms along Tanglin Road and stealing mobile phones and a wallet from unsuspecting guests. Police investigations revealed that the suspect struck twice within just three days before he was caught.

Hotel Guests Report Missing Belongings

The first case was reported on 19 August 2025 when a hotel guest discovered his handphone missing from his room. The incident was quickly followed by another on 21 August, when a different guest lodged a police report after realising his handphone and wallet had vanished from his hotel room in the same area.

Both thefts alarmed hotel staff and guests, as such crimes are uncommon in Singapore’s hotel sector, which is generally known for strict security measures. Police officers from Tanglin Police Division were immediately activated to investigate.

Swift Arrest After CCTV Review

Through a combination of ground enquiries and CCTV footage analysis, the identity of the suspect was swiftly established. Officers moved in and arrested the 38-year-old man on the same day that the second case was reported, preventing any further offences.

The police also successfully recovered the stolen handphone and wallet belonging to the second victim, ensuring that some of the stolen property was returned to its rightful owner.

Heavy Penalties for Housebreaking and Theft

The suspect was charged in court on 23 August 2025 for the offence of housebreaking and theft. If found guilty, he faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.

The Singapore Police Force stressed that it takes such crimes seriously and will act swiftly to bring offenders to justice. Members of the public, including hotel guests, are reminded to take precautions such as locking doors, securing valuables in safes, and reporting suspicious behaviour immediately to authorities.
