A 60-year-old man who assaulted former Singapore actor Huang Yiliang at a hawker centre has been issued a 12-month conditional warning by the Singapore Police Force (SPF).
According to Shin Min Daily News, The warning was issued on Aug 3, after police completed their investigations into the incident, which took place at Circuit Road Hawker Centre on May 10. Huang, 64, was reportedly attacked at the hawker centre, where he operates a seafood stall.
The case attracted considerable attention after videos of the incident circulated online, including footage showing Huang being taken away from the location on a stretcher.
Police complete investigations
SPF confirmed that the 60-year-old man had been given a 12-month conditional warning following its assessment of the case.
According to police, the decision was made after the investigations were completed and the circumstances of the case were carefully considered. The police also consulted the Attorney-General’s Chambers before issuing the conditional warning.
The man had been accused of voluntarily causing hurt and intentional harassment in connection with the incident.
A conditional warning is an official warning issued by authorities under specific conditions. While it does not amount to a criminal conviction, breaching the conditions attached to such a warning may result in further action.
Incident followed earlier hawker dispute
The assault occurred only days after Huang had reportedly been involved in a heated argument with a neighbouring hawker stall owner.
The former actor, who has continued operating his seafood business at the hawker centre, had previously spoken about the situation and indicated that he intended to carry on with his business despite the incident.
Huang also said he would keep his distance from the other party. At the same time, he appeared open to the possibility that relations could improve in the future.
Huang continues operating his stall
Despite the altercation and subsequent attention surrounding the case, Huang has continued running his business at Circuit Road Hawker Centre.
He previously said that business at the location remained stable, giving him reason to continue operating his stall.
The former actor is known in Singapore for his acting career before moving into the food and beverage trade. His involvement in the hawker business has kept him in the public eye even after stepping away from the entertainment industry.
With police investigations now completed and the 12-month conditional warning issued, the latest development brings the authorities’ handling of the assault case to a close, subject to any further developments arising from the warning’s conditions.
