Man Arrested Within Hours After Alleged Housebreaking Attempt At Pine Close

A 27-year-old man has been arrested by police in connection with a suspected housebreaking incident that took place at a residential unit along Pine Close.

The incident was reported to authorities on the evening of February 26 at around 6.32pm. According to police statements, the unit was believed to have been unlawfully entered, prompting an immediate investigation by officers.

Police from the Singapore Police Force quickly began enquiries following the report, with officers from the Bedok Police Division taking the lead in the investigation.

Suspect Identified Through CCTV And Police Camera Footage

Investigators were able to identify the suspect with the assistance of images captured from police surveillance cameras and nearby CCTV systems. Ground enquiries conducted by officers also helped to narrow down the suspect’s identity.

Within five hours of the initial report, officers successfully tracked down and arrested the 27-year-old man.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly gained entry into the residential unit by climbing through a window that faced the common corridor of the building.

Despite the break-in, authorities confirmed that no items were reported stolen from the premises.

The swift arrest highlights how surveillance technology and coordinated investigative work can help police resolve crimes quickly, especially in densely populated residential areas.

Suspect To Face Charge Of Housebreaking

The suspect is scheduled to be charged in court on February 28 for housebreaking with intent to commit theft under Section 451 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, the offence carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment along with a possible fine.

Housebreaking remains a serious criminal offence in Singapore, and police have repeatedly emphasised the importance of preventive security measures in residential properties.

Police Advise Homeowners To Strengthen Security Measures

Following the case, the police reminded residents and property owners to take simple steps to reduce the risk of break-ins.

These include ensuring that doors, windows, roller shutters and other entry points are properly secured with high-quality grilles or padlocks whenever premises are left unattended, even if only for a short period.

Residents are also advised not to keep large amounts of cash or valuables at home, as this may attract criminal activity.

Installing security systems such as burglar alarms, motion-sensor lighting and closed-circuit television cameras can also help deter intruders and assist investigations if an incident occurs. Police added that such systems should be regularly tested to ensure they remain in good working condition.
