After receiving the report of the suspected housebreaking and theft, officers from the Bedok Police Division swiftly conducted ground enquiries and reviewed CCTV footage from the premises. Their investigative work led them to establish the identity of the suspect, who was subsequently arrested on 1 July 2025.

The man is set to be charged in court on 3 July 2025 for housebreaking and theft under Section 451 of the Penal Code 1871. If found guilty, he faces a potential imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine, underscoring the serious consequences of property crimes in Singapore’s strict legal framework.

Police Remind Public to Strengthen Security Measures

The case serves as a timely reminder for business owners and residents alike to prioritise property security. The police have advised members of the public to take several precautions to minimise the risk of housebreaking and theft. These include securing all doors, roller shutters, windows, and other access points with sturdy grilles and closed-shackle padlocks — even if leaving the premises unattended for a short duration.

Additionally, it is recommended to avoid keeping large sums of cash or high-value items on-site to reduce potential losses should a break-in occur. This advice is particularly relevant for businesses holding valuable stock, such as electronics, jewellery, or luxury goods, which can be lucrative targets for criminals.

Technology Key in Preventing Housebreaking and Theft

The police also encourage the installation of burglar alarms, motion sensor lights, and CCTV systems covering all entry points. These security technologies not only deter opportunistic thieves but also provide crucial evidence in the event of a crime. Owners should ensure that these devices are tested regularly and kept in good working condition to maximise their effectiveness.
