Man, 48, Arrested After Alleged Molestation Incident Inside Woodlands Toilet
A 48-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly dragged another man into a public toilet in Woodlands, locked the door and molested him in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The suspect is expected to be charged in court on 22 July with aggravated outrage of modesty.
According to the Singapore Police Force, officers received a report at about 12.45am on 21 July from a man who claimed he had been sexually assaulted by an unknown individual at a male toilet along Woodlands Avenue 1.
The victim alleged that the suspect pulled him into the toilet before locking the door and carrying out the molestation.
Suspect Arrested Within Four Hours
Following the report, officers from the Woodlands Police Division launched investigations and quickly identified the alleged offender.
Police said they established the suspect’s identity using surveillance footage, police camera images and extensive ground enquiries conducted in the surrounding area.
The 48-year-old man was subsequently arrested within four hours of the report being made.
He is scheduled to be charged in court with aggravated outrage of modesty.
Charge Carries Up to 10 Years’ Jail
Under Singapore law, a conviction for aggravated outrage of modesty carries a punishment of between two and 10 years’ imprisonment, along with caning.
The case remains before the courts.
Police have reminded members of the public to remain alert and to report suspected cases of outrage of modesty as soon as possible. They also encouraged anyone who witnesses such an incident, or believes someone may have been a victim, to contact the authorities immediately so that investigations can begin promptly.
Authorities added that swift reporting allows officers to gather evidence more effectively and increases the likelihood of locating suspects quickly, as demonstrated by the rapid arrest made in this case.
