Man Arrested Within Hours After Attempted Armed Robbery in Geylang

A 31-year-old man was swiftly arrested by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) after attempting to rob another man in Geylang using a penknife. Thanks to quick police work and CCTV surveillance, the suspect was caught within seven hours of the incident.

The case happened on 11 September 2025, at around 10.30am, along Lorong 8 Geylang. Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect had allegedly threatened a 38-year-old man with a penknife in an attempt to steal his mobile phone. The victim managed to escape without losing any belongings and immediately sought help.

Through extensive ground enquiries and assistance from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division managed to establish the suspect’s identity. He was arrested the same day.

Suspect to Face Court Charges

The man is expected to be charged in court on 13 September 2025 for attempted armed robbery under Section 393 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted, he faces a jail sentence ranging from two to seven years and at least 12 strokes of the cane.

Authorities emphasised that violent crimes will be dealt with firmly under the law, highlighting the importance of deterrence in maintaining public safety.

In light of the incident, SPF reminded members of the public to stay calm if confronted by robbers. Victims should avoid escalating the situation, instead taking note of the offender’s appearance and distinctive features before calling the police as soon as possible.
