MAN ASKED WOMAN TO SLEEP WITH HIM, THEN THREATENED TO KILL HER WHEN REJECTED

Periyasamy Kannanthen, a 53-year-old security officer, was sentenced to 3 weeks imprisonment and fined $4,000 after pleading guilty to 2 counts of harassment.

He had asked a woman for her phone number, which she gave him, then texted her and asked her to sleep with him.

She then ignored his request and he then threatened to kill her.

Kannanthen also texted another man about threatening to kill another woman in a separate, unrelated incident.

What happened?

Kannanthen had met the 20-year-old victim, who was working as a waitress and making a delivery for her workplace when he asked her for his number.

He then sent her obscene messages and she then told her boyfriend about it, and the boyfriend then went to Periyasamy’s workplace on 21 August at about 8pm to confront him.

Kannanthen then chased the boyfriend away with a metal stick and later texted the woman later that day at about 8.30pm and threatened to kill her.

The boyfriend then made a police report.

In a separate incident, Kannanthen reported for work on 15 October last year at about 8.15pm and an operations manager received complaints from residents about 30 minutes later that he appeared drunk and unstable.

The manager then called Kannanthen, and the latter then hung up on him after being agitated, before taking his uniform out and burning it on a grass patch outside the property at about 9pm.

He then took a photo of his burning uniform and sent it to the manager, saying that he was praying for the “bad omens” to go away.

Kannanthen was then told to calm down and head home, and he then left a few minutes later, before going to a void deck and drinking alcohol.

He then texted the manager at about 9.40pm and threatened to kill a woman, which alarmed the manager who then alerted his management and the apartment concierge.

He also advised them to inform the police if Kannanthen confronts them.
