Lim Tin Soon, 60-years-old, pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing hurt and was sentenced to 9 weeks imprisonment on 11 January.
He had attacked an elderly cleaner who told him that he could not sit in a reserved area for bus drivers, with the victim suffering a fractured cheek as a result of the attack, as well as bleeding from the mouth area and having his dentures broken.
What happened?
On 23 December 2020, Lim was struggling to find a seat to have his breakfast at a Punggol Bus Interchange Canteen, and he then sat in an area that was reserved for bus drivers to have his breakfast.
The cleaner noticed him and told him that he couldn’t eat there, to which Lim then got agitated and hit the elderly man – he also threw his food tray onto the floor.
The elderly man immediately fell into his back and could only get back up with assistance.
An LTA transport ambassador, Lim Tuck Keong, who was at the scene at the time, called the police after witnessing the assault.
The elderly cleaner was given 7 days MC, with Lim making full restitution of the victim’s medical expenses of around $145.
