A Facebook user shared how he bought a canned drink from a coffeeshop in Serangoon for $1.70, and was not happy because it didn’t come with a straw.

He added that the coffeeshop wanted to “go green”, as he lamented how “inconvenient” it is for old people to drink without a straw.
Here is what he said
They charge $1.70 for a can drink and tell you they don’t provide straw because want to go green….cut cost say cut cost la, for older ppl very inconvenient to drink without straw….i think this is the only special coffee shop in Singapore.

- Yah just like those businesses that charge more for plastic bags. I think it just helps them to cut cost only. Use environment as an excuse. Why should the cost be passed on to consumers in the first place. If they’re truly so concerned about the planet, those corporations should absorb the cost instead of just wayang and expect the public to be the ones paying for it while they reap the benefits of acting as if they care and having a fake positive image.
- We are using rice degradable straw in Vietnam. Majority of restaurant and street food too are using paper straw. And it’s so cheap too as I buy and use at home. What’s the fuzz of Singapore restaurant cannot provide paper straw? It’s not even 0.01 cents each straw….
- Ask them how exactly does it help to save the environment and chances are they don’t even know. Agree, just any opportunity to cut costs.
- Everybody is using going green as an excuse to cut costs, as if they have never heard of recycled paper straw before. Hee
- Want to save the environment but yet will charge if customers need plastic bag. Don’t understand the logic.
