Anyone dislike driving and started liking public transport more after owning a car?
As per title, before buying a car, I thought driving will be great comparing the time saved on google maps.
Now I find driving an absolute chore, in particular during peak hours. There are almost no time savings since I stay next to the MRT station, the little time saved from driving is spent parking.
There are also added risks (to the car, caught in traffic) and costs involved with driving and most of the time, and I will prefer to simply transfer these risks to SMRT.
I can even get some rest or work done on the train. I appreciate our public transport even more and love taking the train now. Is it weird that I own a car but would rather take public transport instead??
Disclaimer: I am fully aware of the benefits of the car in other situations like off peak, heavy loads, elderly, ulu places etc.
I’m referring to cases whereby the difference between driving and taking public transport is about 15 minutes or less and you are just transporting yourself from point A to point B.

- Let me guess, you also have to become the driver and drive everyone else in the family to their errands throughout the day
- I gave up my car after I taught my kid to take train and bus by herself. Really didn’t enjoy driving here at all. I like to drive but totally put off by it here.
During my regular medical checkup, the doc commented that my BP was very well controlled now. He asked what I did, I told him I gave up driving. He replied it was the best decision for my life!
I have driven in other countries and yes, there are bad or ill-mannered drivers but generally it was pretty ok. But locally, OMG.
I’m very thankful for our efficient and convenient bus/MRT network. Granted I live within walking distance to a station.
Was thinking of learning to ride a bike but concerned about safety especially with the number of idiotic drivers here.
