A Facebook user has shared his unpleasant experience with an insurance company after he tried to make a claim as the victim of a “Hit and Run” accident.

The incident happened on 27 Jun 2020 at the open-air carpark beside Queensway Macdonald’s. The car was hit by an irresponsible driver and it was badly damaged. A police report was made with video footage from a dashcam provided by another car owner.

Along with the police report, the man contacted the insurance company that insured his car for a claim. The man was later informed by the insurance company that they were unable to process his claim as the “Hit & Run” driver did not make a report in regards to the accident.

“Dear Family & Friends,
I am posting to express my unhappiness and unfair justification by Insurance.
On 27 Jun 2020 late evening, I parked my car at the open space car park of Queensway Mcdonald’s (Japanese Teahouse) for dinner. As I proceed to my car after my late dinner, I was staring without blinking at my car as the front was badly damaged due to an irresponsible driver who HIT & RUN. There we 2 warm-hearted and kind people who witnessed the whole irresponsible HIT & RUN act and they volunteered to be my eyewitnesses together with their car cam videos as a proof for reporting this case to Singapore Traffic Police.
Thank you Singapore Traffic Police for their swift actions on investigating the case and they have concluded that the irresponsible driver has committed careless driving and failing to stop after an accident. I sent my car for repair and informed the insurance company that insured me n my car on the accident and request to claim on the cost incurred caused by this accident.
However, I was traumatized when the insurance company that insured me informed me that I am UNABLE to claim from the irresponsible driver’s insurance because he DID NOT REPORT to his insurance company regarding the accident which I seriously feel that is too ridiculous! Hence, is an insurance company(s) to insure and protect responsible and innocent personnel or to irresponsible personnel? Is this the loophole? Meaning to say if I am involved in an accident and I dun report, no one can claim against me?
Please feel free to share or advise on what can be done. “
