
A 53-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 weeks of jail and fined $15,000 after he was caught drink driving for the third time. He was also disqualified from driving for life after crashing into a construction barricade.
The accident took place in front of Balmore Plaza and this was the third time he had committed a drink driving offence.
According to the court documents, the man has shared a bottle of wine with one of his friend on 28 Nov 2019. He was on his way home when the accident took place. It was reported that he lost control of his car before the crash.
The police were alerted by a member of the public and he was conveyed to the hospital where he took a blood test. The test result shows that the man was heavily intoxicated at the time of the accident. He was later arrested for drink driving.
According to the law, for his offence, he could be jailed for up to 2 years and fined up to $20,000. Anyone who is caught drink driving for more than twice must be disqualified from driving for life unless there is a valid reason.
