
28-year-old Muhammad Salihin Ismail went on trial earlier today (February 2) for the murder of his 4-year-old stepdaughter.
It is alleged that he got angry at her for urinating outside the toilet bowl before dealing the datal injury to the victim, Nursabrina Agustiani Abdullah, between 1-2 September 2018.
Upon conviction, he faces either the death penalty or life imprisonment.
He is also facing two more charges for acts of violence against the girl, which took place between July 2017 and September 2018.
The High Court was told that the victim came into his care after his release from the Singapore Armed Forces Detention Barracks in February 2017, which is the military equivalent of prison.
The trial is expected to continue on Wednesday.
