MAN CHEATED $2,300 FROM MASK BUYERS & GO BATAM, ARRESTED ON RETURN

A man was sentenced to jail after he was caught cheating multiple people on Carousell.

23-year-old Mohammad Zulhimi Arif posted on Carousell that he was selling facemask online in Feb 2020. During that time face mask was not commonly sold as compared to today and there was a demand for them.

The victims paid Zulhimi a deposit for buying the face mask ranging from 20 – 30%, Today Online reported that the victims have ordered between 120 to 300 boxes of face masks and the amount of the orders are valued from a range of $1,800 per victim to $3,750.

However, after receiving the deposits, Zulhimi failed to deliver and he had no intention to fulfil the orders.

The victims report the incident to the Police

He withdrew $1,700 from an ATM at HarbourFront MRT and left for Batam with his then-pregnant girlfriend on the very same day he received the money from the victims.

On his return, he was arrested by the Police and said that he has spent most of the money.

He has yet to pay back the victims.

Zulhimi pleaded guilty to his crimes and was sentenced to 14 weeks in jail.

He could have been sentenced up to 10 years jail and fine for cheating.
