Mohd Ramlee Ab Samad, 60, was charged in court earlier today (August 3) with 85 counts of cheating, for his suspected involvement in a Haj pilgrimage tour scam of over $98,000.
In a statement by the Singapore Police Force (SPF), a police report was lodged on August 15, 2018 and Ramlee was then arrested on October 4, 2018 after 80 people who paid for a “Haj tour” never received confirmation of their flight and visa details.
The police said in its statement that members of the public wishing to perform Haj should make enquiries first on Haj registration with the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS).
Ramlee is due to return to court on August 31 and his bail was set at $30,000.
He is facing a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine for each count of cheating.
