I recently saw a friend at Marina Bay Sands when I went there to utilise my free room.
We had not seen each other for years and so we planned to have dinner one evening before we both checked out.
The evening came and I met up with my friend. It was going well, we had spent the night laughing, reminiscing and catching up on each other’s lives; it was like old times.
Ordered a lot then pretended to use toilet when the bill came
We had ordered a lot of food, drinks and dessert, but that’s how we used to do things. When the bill came, my friend got up to go to the toilet, leaving me to take care of it.
I had assumed he was just going for a few minutes and would come back, but he never did.
When I called out for him, the waiter informed me that he had already left the restaurant. I was incredulous, and felt embarrassed and humiliated.
I had no idea what had just happened and why he had done this. I had no choice but to pay the bill, which had come up to $480. I had been looking forward to the night out with my friend and now the evening had taken a complete turn.
My mind was racing with thoughts, my heart was pounding and I was struggling to make sense of it all. I had known this person for years, and I never thought he would do something like this. I felt betrayed and taken advantage of.
He had chosen to abandon me and leave me with the bill.
No way to contact my friend
I was left feeling confused and angry. I had no way to contact my friend and ask him why he had done this, and I had no idea what to do.
We did not change numbers and he was not using his old number anymore.
To make things worst, even his social media accounts were all deactivated
I had no choice but to pay the bill and leave.
I couldn’t believe that my evening out with my friend had ended in such a way. I had been looking forward to a nice evening, and it had all come crashing down.
I had been taken advantage of. I had no answers, and I had to pay the bill of $480
