MAN EXTORTED TO PAY S$10,000 AT BEDOK RISE, “OR I TELL POLICE U DOING ILLEGAL ACTIVITY”

A 33-year-old man was arrested by the police in connection with attempted extortion in Bedok Rise and he will be charged today.

The police issued a statement last night (March 12) saying that the police received a report at about 8 pm on the 9th of March 2020. The male victim claimed that he was threatened by a person he knew, and the victim was extorted to pay up S$10,000 or he will tell the Police he is involved in illegal activities.

After investigation, police officers at Tangling Police Station confirmed the identity of the suspect and arrested him on the 11th.

The man will be charged in court today. Once convicted of extortion, he can be sentenced to two to five years in prison and caning.
