MAN FEELING BAD CAUSE HE’S POOR AND HIS GF IS VERY RICH

Met a great woman 6 months ago.

She comes from a nice family with two parents, a nice big house, fancy holidays, nice cars and all that. She herself isn’t super-rich but she’s doing better than me.

I come from a poor family, single mum, dad went to prison, no home ownership or cars. I work as a language assistant usually but take a break and worked in a bar.

I feel bad because I have no wealth and cannot provide stability for our future. I’ve tried retraining in journalism and as a teacher and came up a little short and things just didn’t work out.

Have any of you worked through wealth inequalities in a relationship? And/or dealt with the insecurity about being poor?

I think I wouldnt be worried about these kinds of things if she was poor as we would be in the same place but it just isnt the case. It’s not a bad thing that she’s from a nice family. It’s more of a hindrance over me and not being able to fix it.

Here are what netizens think:

  • It’s something I’ve dealt with before in previous relationships. There were definitely some insecurities which eventually pushed me to be more ambitious but I think a lot of insecurities & issues that can come up can be solved through communication. I think as long as you’re able to provide for yourself, have goals you’re striving for, and can still have a good time within your means, women will respect that.
  • Most women over 30 have come to the understanding that we must be able to take care of ourselves. We are not looking for someone to take care of us 🙂
  • I don’t care if he’s a shoe salesman, as long as he works hard, can provide for himself and appreciates the things he wants and has. I want a partner, not a dependent or provider.
