The story begins with a TikTok video that took the internet by storm. Hafiz, affectionately known as “The Coin Collector” among his friends and family, decided it was time to unveil the result of seven years of meticulous saving.
The moment of truth was captured on video and uploaded on TikTok, instantly turning him into an online sensation.
As the video played out, Hafiz, armed with a saw, proceeded to cut open the 19-litre water bottle brimming with 50-cent coins.
As the water cooler bottle was carefully split open, a cascade of 50-cent coins tumbled out. It was a culmination of years of dedication and discipline.
In the video, Hafiz made it clear that his savings consisted exclusively of 50-cent coins. There were no 10-cent or 20-cent coins to be found in his impressive collection.
According to him, it took the combined efforts of four people over three hours to tally the total number of coins. The final count left everyone astonished as the coins added up to a substantial sum of RM5,360 (approximately S$1,553).
The Reward: An iPhone 14
Once the water cooler container was brimming with coins, Hafiz knew it was time to take action. With the assistance of his family, the laborious task of counting the coins began.
However, depositing over RM5,000 (approximately S$1,449) worth of coins into banks proved to be no small feat. Hafiz had to visit six different banks to complete the process. Nevertheless, the outcome was more than worth it.
With the hard-earned money he had diligently saved over the years, Hafiz achieved a remarkable feat – he bought an iPhone 14 in cash, without resorting to installment plans.
The Origins of the Collection
Hafiz’s journey into coin collecting began in 2016, almost as a whimsical experiment. Initially, he stored his 50-cent coins in mugs and potato chip containers, trying to keep his growing collection under wraps.
However, the day came when he realized he needed a more substantial container to house his burgeoning wealth. That’s when the 19-litre water cooler bottle entered the picture.
