
According to a media release, a 23-year-old man was fined for $3,000 for hitting a man while he was riding his E-Scooter outside a school. The accuse was charged for causing hurt by a rash act after failing to slow down while riding.
The incident happened on 18 Jul 2019 around 1 PM in front of St Hilda Secondary School, The accuse was on his way to collect a food delivery order. When approaching the group of people he shouted “Excuse Me” but he did not slow down.
As he was approaching the group, he applied the brake and skidded before hitting a 55-year-old man. The accuse did not stop to help the victim and ride off immediately.
After the incident, the victim’s colleagues managed to locate the accuse by the Domino’s Pizza delivery bag that he was carrying. When confronted the accuse denied that he was the rider but eventually admitted it.
The victim was later taken to the hospital for treatment and was given medical leaves. Domino’s has also paid for the victim’s medical bill as compensation.
According to the law, anyone convicted of causing hurt by a rash act could face a jail term up to 1 year, fine up to $5,000 or both.
