A 19-year-old man, Adam Abdullah, was fined $1,200 yesterday (17 May) for approaching a person wearing a Spider-Man costume inside a crowd at Clarke Quay on New Year’s Eve.
he had pleaded guilty to one count of breaching Covid-19 regulations by failing to keep a 1 meter distance from others.
Adam was with 6 other friends on 31 December last year in the evening, and they were near a bridge outside Riverside Point.
The man in the Spider-Man costume, Kotra Venkata Sai Rohankrishna, 20-years-old, was filming a video for a YouTube channel with three other people, interviewing others in the huge crowd.
Adam saw Kotra and approached him with his mask below his chin and shook his hand, greeting him loudly, and it was filmed on Kotra’s camera.
In his defence, Adam said that “we just turned 18 and wanted to have a good time. it was a lapse of judgment and I wasn’t thinking properly.”
Meanwhile, Kotra is set to return to court on 31 May after being charged with breaching Covid-19 safe management measures.
