
A 31-year-old man was fined $1,500 after he was found guilty of verbally abusing an NEA officer after he was caught smoking at a non-smoking zone.
The incident happened on 28 Arp 2020 at an open-air car park near Somerset 313. According to court documents, the NEA officer was performing his duty in the area. The officer then spotted the man smoking at a non-smoking zone.
The NEA officer then approached the man with his colleague and asked the man for his particular to issue him a summon. The man then took out his NRIC and threw it on the bonnet of his car before swearing at the NEA officer.
It was reported that the man told the NEA officer “F*** your whole family” and “C***B**”. The NEA officer later lodged a police report against the man.
According to the law, anyone convicted of verbally abusing a public servant could be jailed up to one year, fined up to $5,000 or both.
