A former FoodPanda deliveryman has been sentenced to 8 weeks of jail and a fine of $500 after attempting to organise a riot in protest of E-scooter ban that was implemented last year.
The 35-year-old man has pleaded guilty to his charges of creating an electronic record containing an incitement to commit acts of violence.
According to the court document, the man has sent messages to two separate rider group chat asking PMD users to gather at Punggol Park, arming themselves with weapons and attack anyone they see so to protest against the E-scooter ban.
The court heard that there were more than 6000 members in the rider’s group chat that the man was in. The man then suggested bringing Parang and attack anyone they see while they gather at Punggol Park.
The police were alerted by members of the group in fear that the messages could incite acts of violence. The man was later arrested by the police at the loading bay of Hougang Mall.
In his defence, the defence lawyer refers his client as a “Simple-minded person” who did not know the seriousness of his message.
According to the law, for his offence, the man could be jailed for up to 5 years and fined.
