Whenever a person opens a new account, bank staff will usually advise the account holder not to set a simple password for their ATM card. However, there are some people who will still do that. Recently, it was reported that a 46-year-old man almost lost $8,000 due to his simple pin.

According to a media release, a 39-year-old man was sentenced to 9 weeks of jail after he was caught withdrawing money from a lost ATM card. The incident happened earlier this year on 02 Apr 2020 around 7.50 pm along Lorong 8 Toa Payoh.

It is believed that the victim has forgotten to remove his debit card from the ATM machine after making some transactions. The accused who was at the ATM machine took the card and tried to make a withdraw with it 15 minutes later.

The accused has failed to enter the correct pin in his first two attempts but was able to access the account on his third try by keying in “888888” as the pin. He then checked the account balance and proceeded to withdraw a total of $8,000 over a period of 2 days.
