MAN HAD TO LIE TO HIS FAMILY AFTER LOSING HIS JOB, “FAKE GOING TO WORK”

I was fired from my job.

It just happened so suddenly; physically not well due to COVID, made a mistake at work and I lost my boss’s trust. While it seemed that I resigned on paper, in reality, it is more of a termination.

Like many people who are still in the infancy of their careers, I am still staying in my parent’s house. Of course, that meant that my loved ones would be worried if I said anything. Luckily, since working from home became relative normality, I can just act as though I was working from home, when in reality I am behind the monitor, sending resume after resume to find a role that suits me.

I had to create a story of why I left my role to my prospective employers.

I had to create a story whenever I went out for an interview as though I were going to my fictitious office.

I had to create a story whenever I wore a smarter-than-usual shirt for an online interview.

Failures, after failures, and even more failures; hiring freezes due to the world’s circumstances, being outmatched due to lack of experience, or simply being off-form for the interviews, I had experienced it all. Fortunately, after months of searching, I somehow managed to successfully get a new role.

However, the story is not over. I have to continue with the act. I have to act as though I am unhappy at my non-existent job. I have to act as though I resigned, and I have to act as though I am transiting to my new job. Once we reach the story finale, everything will be back to normal. It will be a new beginning.

I do not care if all the stories are a bunch of lies; I believe I did the right thing.
