The incident occurred at around 10:30 am on January 8, near Block 531A on Cross Street. According to a tip-off from a concerned reader, multiple police officers were seen at the scene, questioning vendors and investigating the area. Photos showed officers moving between fruit stalls and small shops as they conducted their checks.

Visiting the site on Thursday and again on Friday morning, journalists observed that business at the market and food centre continued as usual, with no disruptions reported.

Police Presence and Witness Accounts

The Vice-President of the Fanglin Market and Food Centre Vendors’ Association, Mr. Ah Hua, told reporters on Friday that he did not personally see the man but witnessed the strong police presence at the scene.

“Officers were holding shields, like something serious had happened. Later I heard from others that a man was carrying a knife and walking around, which made some people feel uneasy, so they called the police,” he said.

He added that the man did not threaten anyone or engage in any violent behaviour, and normal business operations at the market were unaffected.

Police Statement and Investigation

The Singapore Police Force confirmed that they received a report of a man in his 60s carrying a weapon in a public space. Officers subsequently arrested the individual and recovered a knife. No injuries were reported, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The case serves as a reminder for the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour to authorities, while police continue to maintain safety in busy public areas.
