On the morning of Thursday, the 25th of May, a peculiar incident took place in the vicinity of Hume Avenue in Hillview.
Reports indicated that a man, dressed solely in his underwear, was sighted inside a drain. Subsequently, law enforcement officers engaged in a five-hour search in the Hillview area for him, according to TODAY.
Following the incident, waste management personnel were observed removing furniture and multiple luggage bags from the drain.
Despite the extensive efforts of the police, the man in question remained elusive when the officers concluded their search later that afternoon.
Police officers diligently combed the Hillview region throughout the five-hour operation after receiving information about the presence of an individual in the drain along Hume Avenue.
Victor Ilano, a 50-year-old resident who happened to be out for a walk around 6:30 am on the aforementioned Thursday, stumbled upon an intriguing sight.
He noticed a faint glow emanating from a hole in the drainage cover. Upon closer inspection, he realized that a man was situated inside the drain, and the light appeared to originate from the man’s mobile phone. At that moment, the man seemed to be directing the phone’s light towards a luggage bag.
Initially, Mr Ilano hesitated to alert the authorities, assuming that the individual could be a worker engaged in repair activities. However, his suspicions heightened when he observed that the man was only clad in underwear.
After discussing with a jogger in the vicinity, Mr Ilano made the decision to contact the police at approximately 6:39 am.
Police officers arrived at the scene at around 6:50 am. They promptly advised onlookers to maintain a safe distance from the area.
TODAY reported that at 9:15 am, eight police vehicles were seen stationed along the road. Furthermore, one of the drain covers had been cordoned off, deterring people from approaching the site.
Personnel from the Gurkha Contingent and the National Water Agency PUB were also deployed to the scene, along with waste management workers. They were later seen extracting various items from the drain, including a mattress, two chairs, and two luggage bags.
Ultimately, at approximately 12:30 pm, both the police officers and waste management workers concluded their operations and departed from the scene. Unfortunately, despite their concerted efforts, the whereabouts of the man remained unknown at that time.
