According to a media release, a 36-year-old man was sentenced to 22 years of jail with 24 strokes of the cane for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl. The man was charged with 3 three counts of aggravated sexual assault by penetration.
During his sentencing, 21 others charges, including aggravated outrage of modesty and aggravated sexual assault by penetration were taken into consideration.
Apparently, the man committed the crime as a revenge against his ex-girlfriend’s mother. As he is angry with ex-girlfriend’s mother for not accepting him into the family.
The incident happened after the man moved in with his ex-girlfriend and her family in a rental flat.
The man has sexually abused the young girl between Feb 2016 to Apr 2017. During this period, the man would approach the victim in the middle of the night and rub himself against the victim without her consent.
In Apr 2017, the victim was entrusted to the man for a few days after her mother was hospitalised. The man then sexually abuse the victim again. Being afraid of the man abusing her again, the victim told her teacher about the incident.
The school alerted the Ministry of Social and Family Development and a police report was filed. The man was later arrested on the same day.
