Man Jailed 3 Weeks For Brutally Assaulting Girlfriend At Lucky Plaza After Suspecting She Was Texting Ex-Boyfriend

A 47-year-old man has been sentenced to three weeks’ jail after violently assaulting his then-girlfriend at Lucky Plaza in an incident that was captured on video and widely circulated online.

The Singaporean man pleaded guilty on July 29 to two charges of voluntarily causing hurt. A court has imposed a gag order on the identities of both the offender and the 34-year-old victim to protect her identity.

The assault took place on Feb. 8, 2026, after the man, who had been drinking heavily, wrongly believed his girlfriend was messaging her former boyfriend.

Relationship Marred By Frequent Arguments

Court proceedings heard that the couple had been in a relationship since July 2024 and frequently argued, with police having intervened on multiple occasions.

On the day of the incident, the pair met at Lucky Plaza, where the man became upset after learning that the biological father of the victim’s 15-year-old son had resumed paying child support.

According to court proceedings, the man reportedly felt resentful because he had previously provided financial support to the woman and her family.

The pair later visited a bar on the sixth floor of Lucky Plaza, where the man consumed an entire bottle of whisky by himself.

His mood reportedly worsened after a female friend greeted the victim with a hug and kiss. When the victim later asked him to buy drinks for her friend, he refused.

Sensing that he had become agitated, the woman left the bar.

Chased And Assaulted Victim Around Shopping Mall

The man later found the victim outside the bar using her mobile phone.

Believing she was texting her ex-boyfriend, he became enraged and allegedly tried to snatch her phone and handbag before grabbing her tightly from behind.

During the struggle, he attempted to push her into a lift, causing the strap of her handbag to break.

The victim managed to escape into a nearby shop for help, but the man pursued her inside.

After leaving the shop, she removed her high heels and tried to run away. The man continued chasing her while threatening to beat her and “smash her face”.

He eventually punched and kicked her repeatedly, including striking the back of her head, causing both of them to fall to the ground.

After getting back up, he allegedly attempted to kick her in the face, but she managed to avoid the blow.

The attack drew the attention of nearby shoppers, with several members of the public stepping in to help. Some reportedly threw shopping baskets at the man to stop the assault, while others assisted the victim to safety.

Videos of the incident later spread widely across social media.

Previous Assault Came Back To Haunt Him

Two days after the attack, the man allegedly contacted the victim several times, asking her not to make a police report and offering compensation.

The victim eventually reported the incident on Feb. 11 after being advised by police to undergo a medical examination.

Doctors found she had sustained bruises and scratches on both shoulders, her right thigh and left calf.

Investigations also revealed that the same man had assaulted the victim on Mar. 30, 2025.

At the time, the Singapore Police Force had issued him a 12-month conditional warning after consulting the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

However, because he allegedly committed another offence against the same victim during the warning period, the authorities charged him in court over both incidents.

The court sentenced him to three weeks’ imprisonment for the offences.
