A man branded as “menace to society” by the prosecution was sentenced to seven months jail on May 6 for verbally abusing police and safe distancing officers.
Ravi Sinathamby Subramaniam pleaded guilty to verbally abusing police and threatening to break the faces of three safe distancing officers.
The offences were committed last month at Hao Mart at Blk 74, Whompoa Drive and at a coffee shop at Block 81, Whompoa Drive respectively.
The prosecution stated the the case “presents an important opportunity for this court to send a clear message that such conduct” against government officers who are aiding Singapore in the corona virus fight will not be condoned. The judge further took two other cases into consideration including threatening his brother with boiling boiling water and a chopper.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Timotheus Koh continued by stating that “Despite being imprisoned repeatedly, he doesn’t seem to be able to remain crime-free for long,” said Mr Koh, further adding that Ravi has even been caned before but “continues to be a menace to society”.
