Sim Zhi Gang, 25, was given nine months and six weeks jailed after cheating 12 victims of $13,000 in various scams. He also blackmailed one man and threatened him with exposing his sexual orientation after they engaged in physical intimacy.
In March 2018, SIm befriended a man on Instagram and they started communicating. On April 28, Sim went to the man’s home he befriended and engaged in physical intimacy.
Sim then threatened the man a few days later and blackmailed him. He threatened to expose the man’s s*xual orientation by posting screenshots of their conversations on Facebook. He then demanded that the victim transfer him $100.
Threatened and alarmed by the possible exposure of his sexual orientation, the victim proceeded to transfer $102 to Sim via PayLah. Sim then repaid the full amount to the victim a few months ago.
Sim pleaded guilty in court to six charges including cheating, money laundering and criminal intimidation.
