A male driver died after being trapped in a rental car that burst into flames following a collision with another vehicle in an open carpark.
The incident happened yesterday (7 January) at Block 42, Cassia Crescent, beside the Geylang Police Post.
The police said that they were alerted to the incident at about 3pm.
Man trapped inside rental car
According to The Straits Times, the white-coloured Mazda 3 was a rental car listed on Carousell by a rental company @i_rent_you2.
A female witness spoke to Straits Times and said that she noticed the accident via the smoke coming out of the vehicle and that the car did not catch fire at first.
The cabin of the vehicle was filled with smoke and the witness and her husband then went to check if there was anyone inside the car.
And that was when she heard movement and realised that there was someone in the car.
Tried to pull man out of burning car
The witness then asked her husband to call the police while she rushed to get help from her neighbours, and it was then that she heard an explosion and the car burst into flames.
The woman said that a police officer tried to pull the trapped man out of the burning car but was unsuccessful, and the fire lasted for about 15 to 20 minutes before the SCDF arrived and put it out at 3.40pm.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by SCDF paramedics.
The operations manager of the car rental company then rushed to the scene after being informed of the incident by the police and he told the Straits Times that the car was rented to a man in his 30s.
