MAN LOST $4,000 TO SCAMMER POSING AS POLICE, CAUSE HE DON’T READ NEWS

With the infamous scammers from overseas that dresses up as the Police, many people have already known the faces of the scammers who often video calls victims while standing in front of a Police banner background.

Shin Min Daily News reported that a man had become a victim of such a crime as he do not read the news.

The victim seldom goes out and do not read news of current affairs becomes a victim of a impersonation scam.

He lost more than $4,000 and his bonus is gone.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the 23-year-old victim, received a WhatsApp video call in January.

The number displayed “+92” (For those that don’t know the country code is Pakistan and its not Singapore).

After answering the call, a man in what looked like a police uniform appeared on the screen. The other party was also wearing a mask and was speaking proper English, claiming to be a Singaporean police officer.

“I didn’t think about it too much”.

As the man appears to be a Police officer he comply with the scammer’s ordersand gave his NRIC number and one-time password (OTP)

The phone call lasted only 5 minutes and all the money in his bank was gone.

The victim stated that there was only 3.8 cents left behind, his savings of over $4,000 is gone.

His aunt said that in addition to work, his nephew stayed at home to play mobile games, and he didn’t watch the news very often, so he was not aware of the ongoing scam situation.
