MAN NO CAR, JOB, CONDO REJECTED BY DATE BUT HIS INVESTMENT IS OVER S$8 MILLION

Rejected on a first date because “no car, no job, no condo.” Little do they know… 🙄

Throwaway account for obvious reasons, but I just need to get this off my chest because the dating scene in SG right now is absolutely toxic.

So I (39M) went on a blind date recently. The vibe was okay at first, but the moment the typical “investigation” started, everything went downhill.

  • “Where do you stay?” HDB.
  • “What car you drive?” Don’t have, I usually just take MRT or Grab if lazy.
  • “What do you do for work?” Honestly told her I’m currently not working/between things.

The moment the words “jobless” and “no car” left my mouth, her face changed instantly. The energy died. She didn’t even try to hide her look of absolute disgust, probably thinking I’m some useless, unmotivated loser living off my parents. She literally made an excuse about a “work emergency,” ended the date abruptly, and ghosted me the moment she got into her Grab.

Here’s the punchline: I am a Man No Car, Job, Condo (MNJC) by choice.

What she didn’t bother to find out because she judged me too quickly is that my HDB is already fully paid for. I cleared the entire housing loan in less than 4 years. I don’t need a car because I rarely commute anyway, so why throw money into a depreciating asset and feed the COE monster?

And the big one? I’m “jobless” because I don’t need a boss. My current liquid investment portfolio is over S$8 million.

I’ve spent years grinding and building my portfolio so I can enjoy actual freedom, but in SG, if you don’t fit the standard 5Cs mold, you’re immediately labeled as low-SES or a red flag. It’s hilarious how materialistic the dating scene has become. If you don’t have a flashy tech job, a entry-level continental car, or a shoebox condo in the OCR, you are completely invisible to these girls. They want a guy who looks rich on Instagram, not someone who actually understands financial freedom.

Honestly, I’m kind of glad she showed her true colors early, but it’s just exhausting. Anyone else experienced this kind of superficial judgment in the local dating scene, or should I just accept that being low-key rich means staying single forever?
