A man in China used his girlfriend’s (now ex-girlfriend) fingerprint and opened her eyelids while she was sleeping to unlock her phone and steal money from her.
He had reportedly stolen about 154,000 Yuan from her (or SGD $24,155) and was jailed 3 and a half years, as well as being fined 20,000 Yuan (SGD $3,137).
What happened
The 28-year-old man went to his girlfriend’s house sometime in December 2020 to take care of her as she was feeling sick, cooking her a meal while lacing it with cold medicine that would make her drowsy.
After the victim fell asleep, he used her finger to unlock her phone, an unidentified Huawei smartphone.
He opened the Alipay app on her phone but it was locked, so he opened the victim’s eyelids to unlock the app via facial recognition software.
He changed the password and withdrew the money, intending to use the money to pay off his gambling debts.
The victim then discovered unusual transactions the next morning and made a police report, by then the man had already fled to another city.
However, he was later found and arrested in April 2021.
