MAN PERFORMS PERFECT AT WORK, BUT GOT PENALISED CAUSE NO MC. LOGIC WHERE??
I am actually fuming right now. I need to get this off my chest before I lose my mind.
I’ve been carrying my team for months. I hit every single KPI, I finish every task on time, and I even take the initiative to do extra projects that nobody wants to touch. I’m literally a top performer. But apparently, in this company, your hard work means ZERO if you don’t follow the “sacred” HR protocol.
Two days ago, I woke up with a massive fever. I’m talking body-shaking, head-throbbing, can’t-even-stand-up kind of sick. I fell into a deep sleep and stayed out for the entire day. By the time I actually regained consciousness and looked at the clock, it was 1:00 AM.
I was too weak to even walk to the clinic downstairs, let alone find a 24-hour one.
The next morning, I told my boss exactly what happened. I was honest. I said I was too physically weak to move, but I offered to go to the doctor immediately that day just to get checked and prove that I wasn’t faking it for a “long weekend.”
The response? Penalised. My boss gave me zero face. No empathy, no “hope you’re feeling better,” just “No MC on the day itself = Unpaid Leave/Disciplinary Record.”
It’s insane. I’ve given this company my 110% and the moment I have a human emergency where I’m physically incapacitated, they treat me like a criminal or a lazy slacker. One “wrong” move—which wasn’t even a choice, I was literally unconscious—and all my past contributions are forgotten.
Is this what corporate culture has become? We are just numbers on a spreadsheet? You can be the best worker in the room, but the moment you don’t have a piece of paper to “permit” your fever, you’re trash.
Seriously considering just doing the bare minimum from now on. If “perfect performance” doesn’t buy you an ounce of understanding, why even bother?
Extra note: I MC average is 2 days a year.
TL;DR: Had a high fever, slept through the day, woke up at 1am too weak to get an MC. Offered to get one the next day to prove I was sick. Boss doesn’t care and penalised me anyway despite my top-tier performance.
