MAN PUNCHED CERTIS OFFICER IN HIS FACE AFTER HE WAS CAUGHT NOT WEARING MASK

A 38-year-old man will be charged with voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from performing their duties. It was reported that he allegedly punched a certis officer in the face after he was caught not wearing a mask.

The incident happened along Teban Garden Road at around 4 pm on 21 Jan 2021. The certis officer was enforcing safe-distancing in the area when he spotted the man without a mask. The officer then asked the man for his particular but the man did not comply.

The man then tried to run away from the officer but he was caught up by the officer later. The man then punched the officer in the face in an attempted to run away. However, he was later detained by the officer’s colleague.

The police were later alerted to the case.

If convicted, the man could be jailed up to seven years, fined and caned.
