Satpal Singh Jaswant Singh, 40, was sentenced to two years jail on September 10 for (among other charges) punching his elderly mother, causing her to fall and fracture her thigh bone after she refused to lend him $120.
He faced one count of assault and a string of other offences, which includes two counts of harassment and one count each of using criminal force on a public servant and criminal intidation.
Sequence of events
Singh, returned to his home at around midnight on February 7, where he then asked his mother, Madam Ranjeer Kaur, for $120.
His mother, a 69-year-old, told him that she couldn’t afford to lend him money and she encouraged him to find a job.
That’s when Singh became angry and punched her in her right thigh, causing her to fall.
Singh then left the scene.
Madam Kaur then called the police when she realised she couldn’t stand up, she was then conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
A medical report then revealed that her right thigh bone had fractured after she fell when her son punched her.
Separate charge of harassment
On a separate charge for a separate offence, the court heard that Singh had met a 34-year-old woman in May last year.
They had a disagreement, details about the disagreement were not disclosed, and the woman blocked Singh’s phone number, wanting to cease all contact with him.
He retaliated by repeatedy calling her almost daily from public phones, from September 20 to November 13, 2019.
He also sent messages to the woman’s husband on Facebook, claiming to have been intimate with her.
Separate charge of criminal force on public servant
In yet another separate charge for a separate incident, the court was told that Singh joined two men for a drinking session at the void deck of Block 140, Potong Pasir Avenue 3 at about 1.30pm on February 21, earlier this year.
He later quarelled with one of them over an undisclosed matter.
He told the man the he would “skin him alive”, he then left and returned at 4am with a kitchen knife.
The man ran away, after Singh threatened to stab him, and called the police; 4 officers arrived at the scene shortly after.
Singh was oberved by the officers to be drunk and was not cooperative when interviewed by one of the officers.
He then insulted the officers with vulgarities and spat at one of them.
