A 32-year-old man pleaded guilty earlier today (11 August) to one count of insulting a woman’s modesty.
He had taken a video of his 18-year-old niece showering while he was staying with them.
He is the brother of the victim’s father’s sister/sister-in-law’s husband.
What happened?
The incident took place some time in 2017 when he was at home, placing his phone camera on the bathroom window ledge.
The girl came home from school and took a shower before noticing the device.
She retrieved the phone and saw a video of herself showering.
She deleted the video and threw the phone onto the floor, before leaving the toilet.
She didn’t tell her family about the incident, thinking that they wouldn’t believe her.
The man then went to the toilet to retrieve his phone and noticed that the recording was stopped.
The victim felt fearful about showering at home after the incident, as well as being afraid of sleeping there because she feared the man would insult her modesty once again.
How the offense came to light wasn’t mentioned in court but it is understood that a school counselor made a police report about the incident on 17 July, 2019.
He will be sentenced on 13 September.
