MAN SAYS HE IS STRUGGLING IN UNI, AS HIS MOTHER NO LONGER CANES HIM

I’ve never had much trouble understanding even very difficult academic material but my attention span and memory are so bad that I’m struggling.

I know I can do a lot better than I’m doing now because I got 275 on my PSLE. My mom was forcing me to study with a cane for months.

I got 7As at A levels because I was in a special programme at RJ and I had a teacher who took a stern interest in making sure I kept up with work. The teacher being a close friend of my mom’s surely helped.

Now that I’m in uni and without supervision, I’m not doing well. I can’t focus. I procrastinate. Every time I sit down to study I just think of doing menial things like laundry, mopping the floor, organizing the DVD rack in my house.

It is debilitating. I’ve been meaning to see a therapist about it but I don’t have money and my parents are very old school and strict. This is starting to feel like an illness and I hate myself for getting the grades that I’ve been getting. I’m doing electrical engineering. The material is very easy to me.

Like it literally takes seconds for me to understand new stuff. But I find it ridiculously difficult to get myself to revise for exams.

Pls help. I don’t want to get depression.
