Can anyone explain why my friends who are doctors or lawyers constantly live in a bubble where they believe they are “elite” or special and separate from other corporate workers?
As much as their work is very meaningful (I mean the doctors), they talk about their jobs like they are much more important than others. Some even glorify how many hours they work as a measure of their “importance”. I also noticed they seem to automatically believe they make more than others or have more earning potential.
Sorry to burst your bubble but times have changed. There are actually regular” people who work in tech, only work 20-30h work weeks and make 200-300k annually a few years out of university. And people who start their own businesses make even more at their own time and target. Not like doctors and lawyers who usually make it big only when they get their own practice in their late 30s or 40s.
Here are what netizens think:
- I think it has to do with the nature of the profession, and not so much about how much money they earn.To be fair to lawyers and doctors (I’m not one), their work usually involves providing solutions to life threatening or life changing matters, which perhaps give many the impression that lawyers and doctors are one of the most important people out there. Not to mention the high barriers to entry into these 2 profession (education, mental capacity etc). I don’t think simply by showing them figures of earnings outside their bubble will “burst their bubble”. Let them enjoy their bubble bath because you know, they somehow deserve to be in that bubble. Not all… but most of them
- Sometimes it’s us who think they are better than us.Good to check upfront with them.
- You obviously have not visited a specialist nor know how much they make?! 300k ?!? LOL that’s just part of the expense for their cars.
- Elite professionals are haughty, cuz they’ve been well protected.Business owners are humble & they stay under the radar. Even at 100+m net worth competitors can still con you and lead to your downfall
