MAN SCARED HIS GF GO UK FIND NEW ‘HOTDOG’ WORRIED ABOUT LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP

Want some opinions regarding LDR, thanks!

So I’ve known this girl for 7 months and she’s going to go for her further studies in UK for 2 years. We didn’t meet through online dating but through a online class. We talked for 2 months before meeting irl. From her texts, she had a really good personality, from NUS biomedical science and is my type.

We clicked really well from the first date and she is the kind that initiates date ideas for the next outing. And I see a long term rs with her. The “problem” is, is that she is going for further studies overseas in the next 2 months, for 2 years. She might meet someone new there – e.g. Singaporeans studying in UK etc. and feelings might change after such a long period of no f2f.

This 2 years would be longer than any of my past rs as I’m only 25. Kind of a right person wrong timing scenario but I believe if we are truly fated to be, we can just resume dating once she comes back to SG.

Thoughts?

Thank you

Here are what netizens think:

  • its ok , i dont even get to see my neighbour and friend for 6 yrs , only till Xmas this year ( they live just down the road okay ) haa . Find the right person , its so easy to connect globally these days. 2 yrs is actually a very short time and you can visit during term break . Just think of how often do you catch up with friends who live in same country …everyone’s so busy these days. She’ll be busy cooking kungpo chicken and indo mee in UK , no time to date other guys one so don’t worry haa. Absence make the heart fonder, its not so easy to find someone who likes you and vice versa , so give it a go and you may be surprised. I was also LDR while my bf went to army and airforce for training in Qld. Nice holidays can catch up overseas , best times touring ard w frens!
  • Don’t leave any regrets in life, do your best and live the moment. Sometimes people come and leave. The right ones will always stay. Good luck.
  • Why worries? If she is yours she will be yours no.matter where she goes
  • Let this 2yrs be a test of your rship! Mine went kaput twice, so uh all the best!
  • I would suggest to myself and the partner I’m in a relationship with to give each other the complete freedom to explore friendships and other relationships (romantic or otherwise). Call it open relationship if you prefer, but that itself is also too vague. A open conversation about each others preferences and desired form of the future relationship may do a lot of good. Transcend the narrow and conformist norms of contemporary relationships to come up with one that is a fit for both parties.
  • Relationships are not property and no one is obliged to commit to one that’s exclusive and restrictive. If I love someone, I value their freedom and opportunity for exploration.
