A 39-year-old man was sentenced to 21 months and 15 weeks imprisonment on 20 December after pleading guilty to 3 charges of distributing voyeuristic images and threatening to distribute intimate photos, he also had 2 other charges being considered during his sentencing.
The man cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim.
He had taken screenshots of his girlfriend (who was cheating on her husband with him) in the shower and sent the photos to her husband and friends.
What happened?
Channel NewsAsia reported that the man was in a relationship with the victim from July 2918 to January 2021, and they video-called each other near the end of their relationship while the woman was in the shower.
The man then took screenshots of the woman’s bare body without her knowledge.
Their relationship then soured in January 2021 and he threatened to send the photos to others if she left him; they later broke up that month but the man wanted to get back together with her, but the victim refused to speak to him.
The man then messaged her relatives and close friends, as well as sent her intimate photos to her husband as well as two other friends.
He messaged them on Facebook and told them to make the victim reply to him, or he would distribute the photos online.
The victim’s husband and two friends refused to comply with the man’s demands and he then created 5 fake Facebook accounts to get the victim to speak to him.
One of the accounts used the victim’s photo as the profile picture in an attempt to trick the victim’s family and friends into accepting the friend request.
On 4 May 2021, the man then used the account and posted photos of the victim, including her with and without any clothes on, using emojis to cover her private parts.
The victim lodged a police report on 9 May 2021.
