My (29m) fiancé (28f) has just asked for a bigger engagement ring. I am pretty deflated and not sure where to go from here.
We have spent the last 5 years together & I felt the time was right to take the next step.
She had dropped plenty of hints as to the style and I thought I had nailed it- I have seen her dream engagement ring moodboard, featuring outrageously massive diamonds.
I customised the band and setting for a month or so before ordering and popping the question a few days ago.
She seemed genuinely over the moon at the time but a day or so later comments such as ‘I wish we had gone to try on rings together’ began to pop up, and just now she flat out said she wants a bigger diamond.
I’m by no means rich but spent a sizeable chunk of my savings on this, as well as time designing and picking the perfect (or so I thought) stone out.
I feel like this is a massive red flag and I’m debating whether to call off the engagement and break up with her. How do I approach the situation from here?
