A tragic incident unfolded in Shah Alam, Malaysia, where a Bangladeshi worker was reportedly killed by his colleague following a dispute over a drink during iftar. The incident took place on the evening of March 19, 2023.
According to Shah Alam district police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, the altercation happened at a workers’ hostel in Shah Alam around 7:20 pm. The victim, a 49-year-old Bangladeshi national, was found dead in a shipping container converted into a dormitory for factory workers at approximately 7:30 pm.
The suspect, a 51-year-old Pakistani man who worked with the victim, was arrested, and a knife believed to be the murder weapon was confiscated.
Investigations have revealed that the dispute arose when the victim drank his colleague’s orange juice meant for breaking the fast. The suspect became enraged and allegedly stabbed the victim several times with a kitchen knife.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days to aid in the ongoing murder investigation, as reported by the New Straits Times. The police continue to investigate the incident’s circumstances, and the motive behind the suspect’s actions is yet to be determined.
