As a young man, I always thought of myself as a loyal friend who would go the extra mile to support his loved ones.
I was recently reminded of this when my best friend of over 10 years, John (not real name), announced that he had just started working as an insurance agent.
John had been struggling to find a job after uni and had finally landed his dream job. He asked me if I could support him by buying an insurance policy from him. Even though I wasn’t looking to buy an insurance policy, I wanted to be supportive of my friend’s career and so I agreed. I bought a policy from him and was ready to reap its benefits.
Little did I know that it would all be for nothing. About six months down the road, I got injured in an accident. I had to hospitalize myself and was in need of some much-deserved financial aid. I expected my insurance policy to provide me with the coverage I needed, but it didn’t.
When I approached my friend for help, I was shocked to learn that my claim was rejected due to some paperwork issues. I was frustrated and disappointed, but I was even more surprised to find out that John had gone missing. I had no idea why he had suddenly disappeared.
I tried to call and text him multiple times but to no avail. His phone was off and he wasn’t replying to my emails. I was so frustrated with the situation that I was about to give up on him and move on with my life.
But then I realized how loyal I had been to him in the past. I had always supported him and he had never let me down before. So I decided to give him one more chance and tried to reach out to him one last time.
Finally, after weeks of trying to get in touch with him, I finally got a reply. He told me that he was sorry for not being in contact and that he was dealing with some personal issues. He also said that he would try to help me out with the paperwork and make sure that my insurance claim was approved.
But talk is cheap, I had to call the company to reassign my policy to another agent to do my claims. The insurance company told me that John has been kicked out of the agency after several similar complains.
Knn, support what support all these are nonsense.
