On March 5, 2022, at around 2.20 p.m., the Police were notified of a case in which a man reportedly assaulted another man with a parang near Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10. Preliminary investigations found that a 26-year-old man had a quarrel with the 29-year-old man’s father earlier that day, and the 29-year-old man reportedly retaliated with a parang for the previous fight and fled the scene. The 26-year-old guy was sent to the hospital awake after suffering a cut wound and having his right index finger chop off.

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras and CCTVs, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the 29-year-old man and arrested him on 6 March 2022, within 13 hours of the reported offence.

The man will be charged in court on 7 March 2022 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by a dangerous weapon under Section 326 Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of life imprisonment; or imprisonment for a term which may extend to 15 years, and shall also be liable to a fine or to caning.
